How to Not Get Lost in the First Place

You know what’s the best way to get back home safely? Don’t get lost in the first place! Here’s how to do it:

1) Plan your trip ahead – know your starting and finishing points, as well as everything in between

2) Memorize the general heading of your trip (N-S-E-W)

3) Make mental notes of every landmark you see as you hike (mountain ranges, waterfalls, bodies of water, etc.)

4) If it happens, recognize that you’re losing your sense of direction, turn back, and go home
